A Night To Remember

Training Night with Snr Grandmaster Doc Hawkins, Doc John Hunt, Shihan Brad Koopmans, Senseis Chris Simpson Sensei Mofo, Sir Nathan, Dai Sempais Sylvester Liddane and Raji Kumar, Sempais Marion

 19th August 2010 -  Chu Zhen Dao dojo - Hemmant

When we were first told that we would be honored with 10th Dan Doc Hawkins from overseas, stories were told of a man who stood 7ft tall, with hands as big as your face, arms like tree trunks and a demeanor that would drive the fear into you by his shear presence. I thought to myself, this is something I have to be apart of.

The knowledge that this man would bring to our humble dojo would be a once in a life time experience for myself, and fellow students, something I could not miss, even if I remembered just one thing from his trip.

Tonight, I met Doc Hawkins, he is large in stature, but not what I expected from all the stories told prior. He is such a softly spoken man, but when he speaks you are drawn in by what he had to say, the knowledge he has and was willingness to give.

He gave such simple explanations of what a particular technique were, which transformed what I had been learning into a better understanding behind it.  Down to earth reasons as to why we do techniques using the “Shortest / Most Direct” path when striking will generate more power and take less time to travel. The “Four Motions / Steps” to the way we kick & how to generate better strength when blocking simply by changing the way we raise our arm.

 The night although short was an experience that I will remember and I look forward to the 29th August for a 6hour training session.

 We were also very honored for:

 Doc John Hunt who was presented with certificates to acknowledge his commitment and knowledge within martial arts. These certificates were:

        *  Bantu Life Membership
